Classic 1950s homes
Kallio is the heart of Helsinki
Kiinteistö Oy Hämeenpenger is a housing company with access to great transport connections in Hämeentie street in the Kallio district of Helsinki. The housing company consists of three buildings: Hämeentie 40, 42 and 44. Completed in 1952, the buildings are typical examples of mid-century architecture with their plastered exteriors and balconies with hairpin railings. Centrally located within a short walking distance from Sörnäinen metro station, the property features traditional urban homes, most of which have a balcony and some have layouts also making them excellent for home-sharing.
The interiors as well as exteriors of Hämeentie 40 were fully renovated in 2023 with respect for the 1950s spirit of the building. Smoking is forbidden everywhere on the property. Hämeentie 40 house and apartments and are smoke free. There is a designated smoking area in the courtyard.
Between the buildings there is a more sheltered area, including a play area for children, that makes a lovely spot to sit in summer evenings. The windows overlook the courtyard or Hämeentie.
The design of the shared spaces meets high standards of urban housing. The building has a pleasant clubroom, four modern sauna sections, a drying room and a laundry room. For cyclists there are racks in the bike storage rooms and for baby transport there is a designated storage space on the ground floor on the staircase section B side. The housing company has two street-level business units on the Hämeentie side.
The renovated apartments are modern in style yet retain their timeless charm. The renovation plans ensured diverse and efficient practicality of the layout designs. All surfaces have been replaced and the fixtures, fittings, materials and equipment are high in quality. The storage solutions are designed for maximum efficiency. Every apartment has a private storage unit in the basement. Most apartments also have a private balcony. In Hämeentie 40, water is billed according to consumption.
