Interior ideas for a cat home: Pretty and practical

Every pet owner wishes for their pet to enjoy their home, but it would be nice if the owner enjoyed the home, too. Here are some fun wallet friendly ideas on how to spruce up your joint rental home to suit all the residents.

A scratching post? Who cares!

Nail care (read: sharpening them asap) belongs to the daily routine of every self-respecting kitty. Too bad that the posts made especially for scratching rarely posses the same allure for cats as the living room sofa.

You can make a DIY scratching surface using an already existing furniture by just covering its leg by some strong jute rope. You can also utilise the shelves in your home: Cover few shelves with wall-to-wall carpet material and fasten them to the wall as a staircase. This way your cat can use their nails climbing and perhaps even sharpen them intentionally after a lazy shelf slacking day.

You can also cover some wall cubes on more than one side, so the furry friend can sit on one cube and sharpen their nails to the side of another.

Oh, and the sofa you can protect with a special sofa protecting film or a protecting spray until your cat has befriended themself with the new scratching surfaces.

Cat toilet to fit the rest of the interior

If your cat litter box is an eyesore or the litter travels all over the place, you can hide the box.

There are plenty of DIY tips online on building a cat litter cabinet. You can find a suitable cabinet at a flea-market or even from your own storage.

You can place a cat litter box to the other cabinet of a two-door closet or a sideboard. Just make a hole on the middle wall through which the cat can jump to the other side. Place a mat on the side without the box so when the cat jumps from the box side to the matside and out of the cabinet, the litter stays on the mat. And where can the cat enter and exit? You can make a similar hole either on the side of the cabinet or on the floor to the furthest part away from the litter box wall.

Is your current litter box too big for a cabinet? You can use ab ordinary plastic box instead, and even cut a hole on the side if it is too tall for your kitty.

Is there a cuter sight than a kitty in a hammock?

Cats love napping in a nest-like hammock. You can quite easily craft a hammock from a left over textile or perhaps shop some new fancy material that suits the rest of the interior.

Titivate a piece of sturdy yet soft fabric that can handle the weight of The Cat. Punch holes on the ends for the binding, and hang the hammock on your balcony, below the coffee table, or even below a seat of your favorite chair.

Hammock cats especially appreciate a central location where they can easily observe (and rule) the surroundings.

Basic box + basic box = a cat castle

It is the biggest cat cliché that where there is a box, inside is a cat. But it is also the truth. So why not craft a castle for the royalty of your casa?

You can assemble a multifaceted castle from empty delivery boxes with some strong wide tape. Cut openings to the boxes and stack boxes to form a tower to jump or climb to. Do remember to playtest the fortress so that it does not break from the first playtime. Overlap the boxes so the wall or the corner of the lower box supports the upper one. And if you are inspired, why not paint the building to fit the colors of your home?

If your budget allows, there is a plethora of cool and funky furniture in the internets for your cat friend.
